Liturgical Choir FAQ

Welcome to the Liturgical Choir's FAQ page! If there is a question that you do not see on this page, please feel free to reach out.

  1. Who can I contact with other questions?
    • Feel free to contact our choir director Andy (amcshane@nd.edu) if you have any other questions.
  2. Can I earn credit for being in choir?
    • Yes, you can receive 1 credit each semester for being in choir. Just search and add “Liturgical Choir” to your class list when you are building your academic schedule. The CRN is 10837.
  3. What events do you do to grow as a community?
    • Choir dinner at South Dining Hall after Tuesday and Thursday rehearsals, and Sunday brunch after Mass
    • Weekend retreats
    • Participate in club sports as a team
    • Secret Santa and caroling
    • Fundraise by selling tailgating food before ND football games
    • Support one another’s interests by attending other club events and performances
    • And many more!
  4. What is the audition like? Do I need to prepare anything or know my voice part?
    • You do not need to know or bring anything. You will be asked to sing a hymn, check your voice range, and do some simple sight reading.
  5. Do I need to have sung in a choir in high school?
    • No, just love to sing and have some basic sight reading abilities.
  6. Do we go on tour every year?
    • We try to go on tour every year, switching between a domestic and international tour. Tour is not required, but it is a good way to see the world, experience beautiful churches, and create closer relationships with other choristers.
  7. Where do you meet? And what are the times and dates of rehearsals?
    • We rehearse on Tuesdays from 5-6:45pm, on Thursdays from 6-7:45pm, and on Sunday mornings from 8:30-9:45am (with mass at 10am). We sing together in the Walton Rehearsal Hall on the third floor of the Coleman-Morse (CoMo) building.
  8. Is it possible to be in Lit Choir and in band/another choir?
    • For band:
      • Yes! It is possible to be in both lit choir and band. Band members typically leave Tuesday rehearsal 15-20 minutes early and skip Thursday rehearsals on game weeks. Feel free to contact Andy (amcshane@nd.edu) and Sam Sanchez (ssanche1@nd.edu) regarding your situation.
    • For another choir:
      • Consent by both choir directors is needed/required.
  9. I am at St. Mary's/Holy Cross, can I still join?
    • Yes, we would love to have you join us!
  10. I am a graduate student, can I join?
    • Yes, of course!
  11. I'm not Catholic, can I join?
    • Of course! We welcome anyone with a passion to sing!
